Being Palanca
A special Palanca exhibition for the sake of raising awareness to the values of
self-esteem, peace, unity ,tolerance and to the significance of the Palanca as an endangered species and as the national symbol of Angola.
Project description
The project features a combination of
Art , Culture , Education , Environmental preservation
As part of this project we will present an exhibition of
Ten Palanca statues,
all based on a uniform model but each designed,
according to the spirit of the project, by one of ten individual artists;
Angolan and foreigners residing in Angola.
Being the national symbol, one that locals dearly relate to,
the Palanca will aid the people of Angola to deepen their identification with social agendas and art.
At the same time we will be opening a Visitors Center to backup and strengthen the idea behind the project on an experimental and educational level.
The center will allow the visitors the opportunity to learn about the culture, the history and the important project values by means of
film, photographs, workshops and displays,
all designed to help the assimilation of the idea more efficiently, through experience
Project main goals
Raising awareness among the Angolan people to the importance of the values at hand: peace, unity, tolerance and self-esteem, and to the significance of the Palanca as an endangered species and as the national symbol of Angola.
Exposing the people to a creative process which links art, nature and the values of peace and unity.
Out target is to create a permanent educational tool to serve the educational system of Luanda, help teach the next generations about the meaning of universal values and become a leading source of Palanca Negra information, designed to present the Palanca to its fullest glory, not just as Angola’s national symbol.
The exhibition
The artists will gather together in a facilitated studio, where each will receive one uniform model to work on for a period of about ten days, after which the designed statues will be transferred to the exhibition site; which we chose together with Yoav Ben Dov, the designer of the uniform model.
The exhibition will be erected in a single open-air space, in the Independence park of luanda, where the statues will be placed to stage a grazing herd in nature.
The exhibition will also mark the cornerstone laying for the Visitors Center, where the Palanca statues will be transferred for permanent display, in due time.
